The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification Might Solve This

Each time a major honors show approaches, there’s always a demand for introducing fresh award types to honor unsung work and delight the spirits of enthusiasts with niche passions.

A fellow writer made the case for a horror game category. That would rule. The same goes for board games, this being a dedicated supporter's campaign. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request stands as crucial above others. Here's the proposal: We need a category for puzzle games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Classifying creative works isn't exact; it remains highly personal, and it will always generate discussions concluding with vague boundaries. There’s a reason movie academies don’t do it. But it is a necessary evil in the world of video games, showing incredible range they barely qualify a single creative category.

To recognize the complete range of gaming accomplishments to gain proper attention, and for games of all stripes to have a chance for representation, specific award classifications remain vital.

Present Award Structure

Leading game ceremonies currently feature classifications covering Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these six categories effectively encompass many game types, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.

Not so for puzzle games. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Think about these recent excellent titles, each quite distinct: building puzzles in a particular game, intense tile-matching in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. Which classification works between these six categories? Simply put, no category fits.

Acknowledgment Issues

Numerous examples exist outstanding logic titles launched regularly without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, except when they manage to fit award groups including Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.

  • One classic puzzle game wasn’t nominated for anything during that awards season
  • Another creative title was excluded in 2019
  • A beloved organization game received no acknowledgment that year
  • Only a few puzzle games scraped into small studio or handheld classifications

Value of Brain-Teasers

Frequently they represent compact experiences, but the art in brain-teasers carries substantial weight. Famous handheld logic titles stand as most engaged experiences in the world maintaining this status for many years.

The legendary block-stacking game rivals well-known building titles competing to become best-selling game of all time; it additionally competes for top gaming experience. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks to the art of video games, and engaging with almost every other genre.

The Solution and Justification

Logic titles wouldn't face this problem. You could fill five nominees engaging, different, qualified experiences annually without trouble — actually, with challenge, since numerous excellent so many good games out.

Restating the point, these are games lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Puzzle game makers are working at the demanding boundary interactive creation, producing among most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Comparable to movie stunt professionals, they deserve recognition. We shouldn't delay generations.
